GERMINATION 98% Packed for 2024

The Myrobalan Plum, scientifically known as Prunus cerasifera, is a species of plum tree native to Southeast Europe and Western Asia. It is widely cultivated for its attractive flowers, fruits, and as an ornamental plant.

The tree can grow to be about 15-30 feet tall and wide, depending on the variety and growing conditions. The leaves of Prunus cerasifera are simple, ovate to elliptical, with a finely serrated margin. They are typically a shiny green, though some cultivars have purple or red foliage. The tree is known for its early spring bloom, often before the leaves fully emerge. The flowers are small, with five petals, and range in color from white to pink. They are attractive to bees and other pollinators.

The fruit of the Myrobalan Plum is a small drupe, similar in appearance to a cherry but with a plum flavor. The skin can be yellow to red, and the flesh is usually yellow and juicy. The fruit is edible and can be used in jams, jellies, and other culinary applications.

Prunus cerasifera prefers well-drained soil but is quite adaptable to various soil types, including clay, loam, and sand.  Full sun is ideal for the best growth and fruit production, though the tree can tolerate partial shade. Regular watering is important, especially for young trees. Once established, the tree is relatively drought-tolerant. Pruning is recommended to maintain shape, remove any dead or diseased wood, and encourage fruiting.

Several cultivars of Prunus cerasifera are popular in horticulture. The Cherry plum is a little-known plum species (at least in this country) with delicious edible fruit that is just starting to catch on here in the US. As with other members of the Prunus genus, there's a great deal of diversity to this species. The fruit is edible and can be used in a variety of culinary applications, though it is not as commonly consumed as other plum species. They can be found in a range of colors, sizes, and flavors. Sweet-when-ripe types are eaten fresh (or made into jams, etc), while sour-when-ripe types are used for sauces, soups, pickles, etc.

With its beautiful spring blossoms and attractive foliage, Prunus cerasifera is widely used in landscaping and garden design. The flowers provide an early source of nectar for pollinators, while the fruit can attract birds and other wildlife. Overall, Prunus cerasifera is a versatile tree that can add beauty and interest to landscapes, along with providing ecological benefits and potential culinary uses.

GROWING TIPS: The Experimental Farm Network recommends the following for best results for starting your Myrobalan Plum seeds. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours then warm-moist stratify for 30-60, days followed by 120 days of cold-moist stratification in the fridge. Keep at room temperature after treatment to sprout. We recommend using a good potting mix in gallon ziplock bags, so you can keep an eye on them but also protect them from being eaten by rodents. Nursing the young trees in a pot for the first couple years is wise, before planting out in a full-sun location and protecting the tree from predation by deer, rabbits, and other critters.

Long lasting
Size: Medium
My dogs love these and they last pretty long. I take them away when they get very small so I think they’re pretty safe.

Meant for bigger dogs than mine
Size: Small
I bought this for my 10 month old pup who’s a VERY aggressive chewer. I’m going to say this is made for a large, older (than mine) dog. She tried to chew a couple times but eventually just walked away from it when I offered it to her and she had only made a few scratches in it. If you have that bigger dog that’s an aggressive chewer, it would be a good value for your money and will keep the engagement high for a long time with its heavy duty quality.

Finally… a dog chew that doesn’t become a homemade prison shank
Size: Medium
My dog has a real talent: turning every “tough chew” into a sharp, weaponized shard that could star in an episode of Locked Up: Canine Edition. But THIS chew? Absolute game changer. For the first time ever, I can relax—no splinters, no pointy edges, no fear he’s secretly crafting a shiv under the couch. Just happy, safe chewing that actually lasts longer than five minutes. It’s durable, it’s safe, it keeps him busy, and I no longer feel like I’m living with a furry little inmate planning an escape. Highly recommend if your dog chews like he’s got nothing but time.

Would buy again
Size: Small
Would have given 5 stars, but my dog was able to chew this down pretty quickly, so not the most durable. I do like that this is made with better material than other dog chews, so I would buy again.
